A very interesting read Ed.I remember Toni Piazza's in the Halfway very well. You would often find my mother, Maisie Magowan (nee Meikle) , sitting at the big table at the end of the counter drinking cup after cup of tea with my auntie Nan Haddow and godmother May Irvine. It was a treat to grow up in a place where we could get fantastic real icecream. Billy Cochrane, Hendy Gibson and I often called in for an ice cream before getting the bus to the Broadway in Blantyre to see the latest Elvis film, or to Rutherglen to the Rio or Odeon.
The poem is very poignant. I only see the Haufie on google street view these days and it's sad to see the cafe as it is now. At least the tiled facade still remains.
