I have a great deal of family history if you are interested in this information.

Hadrian's Wall - Walks 1 and 2

Please enter your comments?

We\'ve just enjoyed a couple of wonderful days in Hadrian\'s Wall country during which time we did both your walks (Hadrian\'s Wall 1 and 2).

They were great! We enjoyed doing them very much.

Thank you for two excellent walks. We very much appreciated being able to download the PDFs and print them out to take with us on the walks. I particularly liked the little detour to see the limekiln in Walk no. 1 which could easily have been passed by unnoticed.

Lovely Castle. Is it true it is being used as apartments now?
If so can you give me a range.

I am an artist and would like to stay in the area for a while to paint. I was there for a visit in 2007 and have friends nearby.

Blawearie Walk

I was amazed to come across your Blawearie walk.My grandmother Annie Nichol was born in Ponteland and brought up in Blawearie, the eldest of eleven siblings.
I visited 50years ago but could not remember exactly where it was.She said she had to walk 5 miles to school in all weathers including snow drifts.Life was hard but her parents came from the Isle of Skye and Ross Shire and were probably used to it.
Life got easier for her though when she met my grandfather buying sheep at Alnwick market. He later went on to inherited nearby Garrett Lee farm where I have managed to visit a few times.
Your photographs are exactly as I remember Blawearie including the state of the buildings and I thank you for your brilliant snaps and pointing me in the right direction so that I can visit again.

Never been to England.

Scotland once in early 70s. US Navy. Rented a car, went from Glasgow up to Loch Ness. Didn\'t see any monster but it was a wonderful trip.

I can\'t seem to get Alnwick Castle to come up when I click on it. Used to work, now it doesn\'t.

Just completed this yesterday but as a stepping stone appeared to be missing we took a small but pleasant diversion upstream slightly & crossed over at East Woodburn bridge, following a track back along the far side of the river to rejoin this pleasant walk.

Thankyou.

I am sorting out a classic car run with the theme of castles and your webpage has been a huge help.

It clearly is a well-researched and constructed site (a bit like some of the castles!)

Once again, many thanks!

Re:- David Blankinsop Littlestown, PA, USA (see entry Jan 20th 2013) and his interest in Blenkinsopp Castle.

This was my Maiden name the double Ps are important (I think- It derives from the Netherlands as in white ship. My Dad was convinced that he was a decendant of Blenkinsopp Castle owners, Wrongly I\'m sure. But a few years ago during a visit, the owner gave him a large wooden shield of the crest, which has been passed onto my brother.

There is also a very old locomotive, from about the same time as Stephenson\'s Rocket, called the Blenkinsopp Rack plus a signal box also called Blenkinsopp (Always the double PP. My family tree has so far been traced back to about 1730.

The castle was the ancestral home of my husband\'s Ridley forebears. His line links through Ellen Ridley, wife of Alfred John Hooper. Many of his relatives have the middle name of Ridley and some have Latimer, referring to the other Protestant Martyr who was burnt at the stake with Nicholas Ridley former Bishop of London.
I am fortunate in having been sent a copy of a pedigree for the Ridley family, compiled some years ago and lodged with the College of Heralds
I am grateful to the site owner for making the pictures and history available.
