Steve Weisberg gave me guitar lessons in 1968-69. One of the best musicians and all-around great guy. I bought his 1964 Gibson SG guitar from him in May, 1969, and still have it. Steve and I got together in Dallas a few years ago before he passed away, and I brought the SG with me. He teared up a little and said it was the best playing and sounding guitar he ever had. Steve had a great career as John Denver\'s guitarist, and played on all of Denver\'s hits. |

Looking for one thing - found another. I notice that Steve Weisberg stopped by as well as a few others. I had a guitar and amp repair shop in South Austin that took in work for Strait Music. I was roommates with Johnny Richardson for a while and then added Sam Garrett to the business and we began recording local groups on 1/4 track for fun. We ended up roadying for The Sparkles, Fast Cotton, and some others. I went to California with John Staehely, and came back to Austin to work at Odyssey Sound, which became Pecan Street Studios. Chet Himes and I were eventually the two main engineers and pretty much partners with Steve Shields and Michael Brovsky. I was Brovsky\'s lead session engineer and we had a boatload of fun. I could go on for hours, but won\'t. Sorry to see that Danny Galindo and Cato Walker have both passed on. God Bless. |

Wanted to show appreciation for what you have done on this site and respect for that GREAT OLD ROCK N ROLL, which I still perform publicly around Austin. Knowing Charlie Hatchett and Ernie Gammage from back then, Austin remains a great music town. My current version of the 1960s band "The Cavaliers" is called "Divas and Cavaliers" because of the addition of two young female vocalists; we played 50 gigs over the last year. I played one with Charlie Hatchett and his current band, "The Fabulous Chevelles". SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE. God bless all you old rockers. Would be fun to get as many as possible of us together for a jam. Best wishes, Johnny Bode |

Randy Thornton is my father, and one of the vocalists for this group. He passed away when I was 2, so I don't remember him, though am proud to be related to such a talented person. For kicks and giggles since I don't have memories of him, I tend to get memories through those who knew him. If anyone has any information about my father Randy that they would like to share with me, it would be much appreciated. I try and check my email regularly. Thanks, everybody. |

Good site. Appreciate the history. Wish you'd expand the section for La Bastille in Houston. This was a great jazz club. Besides the many visits I made to Liberty Hall, this was the main place I saw music while in High School. I saw many greats there before they died: Dizzy Gillespie, Cannonball Adderly, T-Bone Walker( the year he died), Les McCann and others that don't come to mind at present. I think Monk played there once but unfortunately I missed that one along with others, many regrets for this. We were underage but they let us in because they thought we were musicians (later I became one, partly inspired by La Bastille). It had great atmosphere, in the basement of one of the oldest buildings in Houston. What a great place and great opportunity for me and my friends. At Liberty Hall, I saw Lightnin' Hopkins probably 15 times, Freddy King many times, the great Zydeco pioneer whose name escapes me at present (a New Years party) and many others. Great beans and rice and a classic 70's venue. Sorry it is gone. Vic |
