Little Crakehall, North Yorkshire England.

Three years ago, my dad who will be 80 this year and I started a journey of discovery in the search for my grandad, Sergeant Douglas George Lilburn Huddlestone.

We learnt that he served with the 4th Battalion Lincolnshire regiment, in particular c company Mortar platoon, and was killed on 25th June 1944 in Fontaney.

We are so very proud of the fact that he was a polar bear and are desperate to learn any information about his service, obtain any photos of interest and hear from anyone who may be able to assist us in the search for his service medals.

My late father and my wifes father both served throughout ww2 in the polar bears,believe my father was in the reconnaissance regiment, he always insisted they landed on d day itself.
Very proud man who talked very little about his experiences

I work in the Utrecht Archives, The Netherlands and I am doing research about the liberation of the city of Utrecht. I would be very interested if there are any letters, diaries, memories about the 49th Polar Bears when they were in the city of Utrecht.
