We have an organ made by William Telford 1850 which belonged to Lord Thynne, and which we thought came from Westminster Abbey. However I was told that the one that came from Westminster Abbey was at Kilkhampton, but from your notes it would appear that only the pipes came from WA. We are having ours looked at by Michael Farley, with a view to getting it cleaned and serviced (we believe it to be some years since this was done!). I am Churchwarden here, and am on 01837 83929.

How did you find this website?

Web search for Martin Schellenberg, having seen a piece of organ music by Malcolm Archer dedicated to him.

Where are you from?

These days, Cleobury Mortimer, Shropshire, but I lived in Bristol for many years and remember Martin as Assistant Organist at the Cathedral.

You were kind enough to allow me a session on Wimborne Minster organ in 2007, which I very much enjoyed and for which I was very grateful.

I was just looking at Wimborne Minster's website and followed links to this site, especially after seeing you were at Okehampton Grammar and maybe therefore the same Tucker as I vaguely remember from living in Pyworthy and listening to a recital there with/coutesy of David Robinson. If so, it's a small world, as I was a chorister at Wimborne Minster under Barry Ferguson before getting into St. Paul's cathedral, when Christopher Dearnley was organist and Barry Rose the conductor / sub-organist.
That out of the way, I'll continue looking round your site!

Saw your piece about Branksome St Aldhelm. My great uncle, Charles Chizlett Taylor, was organist there for many years - he died about 1947/48 when I was 10. My father remembered him with great fondness though I don't think I ever met him . Tony

I searched the web for "Wimborne Minster" because of the first lines in the comment box:

CD: "Fanfares to Fancies" Martin Schellenberg. Organ recital Wimborne Minster (3-manual electro-magnetic) - was most intrigued by the term "electro-MAGNETIC" having never run across that particular description of an organ action. Moving through you site I enjoyed your photo albums, especially of the MInster, but the gallery that really hit home for me was Dublin and the photos of St. Patrick's Cathedral and the organ there. I was most fortunate to have been able to play there in May of this year when a local community chorus I am involved with was on tour. For years I have dreamed of playing a Willis in a resonant cathedral in the British Isles. This has to be one of the top joys of my life, even though I only had 15-20 minutes to register three pieces and get used to the instrument. I am fortunate to have a recording of my performances there and have to say that every time I listen to the pieces I get the exact same feeling that I had when I was there playing. You all are so fortunate to have such wonderful rooms to perform in - ours are mostly dry, dull, environments that take any hope of inspiration to musicians. I'm glad I stumbled upon your site and wish you all the best with your career. - Bill

Wow. Albert Oke. That's going back a bit! I started my life in Holsworthy and my dad washe Methodist minister there. (1950 - 1955) I went back there yesterday and played the organ: now rebuilt and very nice. (Although I don't think the pedalboard is used much.) had lunch with a relation of Albert's: Betty Oke. Memory Lane, of course, but fun. Great site.
